makes a plea for wildfowling statistics |
|
We all know how the antis
make allegations about shooting, usually unsupported, and rely on
the ignorance of the general public to win more points than they
lose. We also know that unless we counter them, the powers that be
will assume the allegations to be true and further restrict what we
do.
The only way to disprove false, or malicious, allegations that is
acceptable to the decision makers is with scientific data. Of
course, such data must be beyond reproach and must have been
collected over sufficient time to be more than just a snapshot in
time.
How many visitors to this site record shooting statistics? The
minimum information thats needs to kept is:
Date of shooting trip
Time of trip i.e. 0430 - 08.30
Place of visit i.e. does the place have a name?
Bag by species, sex and number
Number of shots fired
Weather conditions
Any unusual occurrences during the trip i.e. jet-skiers
My Club has kept such statistics for some 20 years now and has used
them effectively to protect our shooting on several occassions. But
there is now a need for such statistics to be available on a
national scale. So, who out there is doing the business and who is
not? If anyone wants more information on collecting statistics on a
personal or club basis, then please contact me on johngraham@pintail.fsbusiness.co.uk.
I will be more than happy at the end of the season to receive and
collate information from shooting returns and to feed them into
BASC's Research Dept. with confidentiality guaranteed.
